Matchweek 1 saw a total of 23 goals over 8 matches(2.875 goals/game), which was above the average of goals/game registered last season (2.72). Of the 23 total goals, 5 stood out to me as exceptional. One came from a set piece, and four came from open play. Without further ado, lets see these beautiful strikes.

At number 5 is Polish Leeds midfielder Mateusz Klich. Klich made a pass from the middle out to the right flank, He then made his run in behind Gigi Wijnaldum and received a pin point pass, took a touch and powered it home past Alisson Becker.

From the same match, is the goal that happened just before Klich scored for Leeds. That’s right, Egyptian forward Mo Salah, who scored the first hatty of the PL season got his lone open play goal of the match in wonderful fashion. Liverpool were awarded a free kick, which was taken by Andy Robertson. The ball gets whipped in, and fell to Salah, who needed only a sole trap to set up his powerful left foot strike into the top right corner.

Registering at number 3 is the signature strike of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The strike was special, obviously but the build up play was just as lovely. Starting deep in their own third, it took just four passes to get Auba the ball at his feet on the corner of the 18 where he proceeded to take a touch in to set himself up, then whip it past the helpless keeper. Stunning.

The second best goal of the week came from Raúl Jiménez of Wolves early in their match vs Sheffield. 139 seconds into the match in fact. A devastating counter attack left Sheffield wide open, and Raúl Jiménez made sure to capitalize, taking the cross of Daniel Podence first time with lovely patience and technique.

My top goal of the week was an absolute screamer, seemingly out of nowhere from Reece James in the 56′ to answer the equalizer netted by Leandro Trossard just a minute earlier. It was his first ever Premier League goal! I’ll just let James’ right foot speak for itself here.
